Holding to the Mission

After an extremely full day and night of ministry that involved healing the sick, casing out demons, and providing people with personal touch, Jesus does something out of the ordinary (Luke 4:42-43). Once found, good intending people beg Him to abandon His life mission. Without hesitation, Jesus replies, “I must proclaim the good news of the kingdom of God to the other towns also, because that is why I was sent.” Jesus purpose is clear and won’t be derailed.

Where does Jesus gain this singleness of mind to fulfill his mission? Solitude – a quiet place of rest in the presence of his Father – a state of “being” apart from “doing”.

Jesus imparts his mission to us (his disciples). Do we practice the discipline of solitude as Jesus modeled? Are we empowered with singleness of mind to fulfill Jesus’ mission by “being” with the Father?
